Our Process

Residential Architecture

Melby Design is dedicated to navigating the design journey, providing expert residential architecture services to transform your vision into a beautifully crafted reality.

Our design process starts form abstract ideas and ends with a finished home. We break the journey into clear millstones including: Programing, Design Development, Documentation, and Administration. Through these milestones, we provide a roadmap that will give you an idea of what to expect. Using this process, we keep your project on track while allowing for creativity to flow and create a home perfect for your needs.

Step 1

Lifestyle & Programming

The clients program will outline the dreams and goals of the owner. This will accumulate through an array of meetings, sketches, site walks, and more. We do this together as this is an exercise that goes beyond room sizes and will get granular on how you live.

Step 2

Design Development & Renderings

After we have an established program and clear direction of how our clients want to live, we begin to take sketches into a schematic level. We believe strongly in the power of options. We will put together different floor plan and site options to challenge and confirm our initial conversations. We support these plans with sketches and renderings to bring the 2D imagery to life.

Step 3

Construction Documents

When the overall design has been approved – this is the moment we push into documentation to further detail the design that has been developed. We are now creating plans for your builder to craft your home.

Final Review & Construction

Once construction begins, Melby Design will be a presence throughout with site visits and communication with your designer and builder as needed. As an option, we offer different levels of involvement based on client, designer, and builder requests.
